With the introduction of SprintLink Packet Private LineTM, SprintLink Virtual LANTM, and SprintLink Frame RelayTM, Sprint becomes the first global provider to offer products based on Layer 2 Tunneling Protocol Version 3 (L2TPv3) — an emerging industry standard and feature of Cisco IOS® Software.
L2TPv3 tunnels Layer 2 frames seamlessly across an IP-based packet network, providing authenticated tunneling to allow Layer 2 traffic to securely traverse a native IP core.
Designed to add the simplicity and power of IP-based communications to secure Layer 2 protocols, L2TPv3 offers the opportunity to capitalize on the performance, survivability and flexibility inherent in the Sprint Tier 1 IP network. Sprint has implemented L2TPv3 across its entire IP network without having to re-engineer the network or change its architecture.
