Spam Filtering: Details
All emails entering your corporate messaging system are run through three layers of advanced spam filtering technologies:
- Blacklisting Our proprietary custom blacklist of some of the worst known spammers serves as a primary filter, blocking all messages from known abusers. Unlike public blacklists that follow a "block first, then ask questions later" philosophy, our list is verified and accurate. Sprint understands that blocking email from legitimate senders is worse than allowing spam.
- Fingerprinting Electronic fingerprints of known spam messages are matched against inbound email, allowing for high intercept rates against difficult-to-detect spam
- Heuristic Screening (Rules-Based Scoring) Our rules-based system matches messages against a database of more than 10,000 unique rules, and then assigns points based upon characteristics of the message to determine if the message is spam. This highly sophisticated approach can result in a very low false positive rate (less than one in 250,000) while maintaining a very high detection rate.
As an alternative to quarantining messages, Sprint also allows spam to be sent through to customers. When Sprint forwards spam, it can modify the message to flag it for internal review.
