With the introduction of SprintLink Frame Relay, Packet Private Line and Virtual LAN Services, Sprint becomes the first global provider to offer products based on Layer 2 Tunneling Protocol Version 3 (L2TPv3). This technology is an emerging industry standard and feature of Cisco IOSŪ Software. L2TPv3 supports IP encapsulation of numerous Layer 2 protocols and provides authenticated tunneling to allow Layer 2 traffic to securely traverse a native IP core. Sprint has implemented L2TPv3 across its entire IP network without having to re-engineer the network or change its architecture.
SprintLink solutions based on L2TPv3 offer customers the opportunity to capitalize on the performance, survivability and flexibility inherent in the Sprint Tier 1 IP network. All are covered by strong service level agreements for installation, data delivery/packet loss, latency and availability. Standard features include advanced Web-based reporting with detailed performance and utilization information. Port speeds range from 56/64 Kbps to 155 Mbps.
SprintLink Frame Relay
A next-generation frame relay service that allows frame relay packets to ride securely over the SprintLink native IP core, versus a statically switched ATM network. Customers benefit from the scalable bandwidth, intelligence and reliability of IP, while maximizing existing investments in frame relay customer premises equipment and expertise. The solution offers high reliability, consistent bursting up to full port speed and security equal to that of legacy options.
In addition to these features, SprintLink Frame Relay provides a seamless migration path to an end-to-end IP VPN. Because SprintLink Frame Relay ports are already provisioned on a native IP network, customers can migrate individual sites at their own pace, with minimal cost and complexity.
SprintLink Packet Private Line
A cost-effective alternative to traditional TDM-based international private lines blending the simplicity and security of private lines with the flexibility and survivability of SprintLink. SprintLink Packet Private Line is provisioned completely over Sprint-owned backbone facilities and seals a customer's data traffic within an L2TPv3 tunnel, securely "locking" the traffic between two ports.
SprintLink Packet Private Line is available over a wide range of full and fractional circuit speeds, including Ethernet, enabling customers to size their circuits to meet exact bandwidth requirements. For the ultimate in flexibility, customers can elect a usage-based pricing model in which they pay only for bandwidth actually consumed.
SprintLink Packet Private Line also eliminates the need for customers to build out their own route diversity - it's an inherent feature of the service, which leverages the high level of survivability built into the SprintLink fully redundant IP architecture.
SprintLink Virtual LAN Services
A leading-edge networking solution that enables customers to create a global, "virtual" LAN, connecting disparate sites running the 802.1Q Ethernet VLAN protocol. SprintLink Virtual LAN Services can connect customer sites collocated in Sprint facilities or accessible via local Ethernet networks, allowing internationally dispersed sites to be managed as a single, unified LAN segment.
SprintLink Virtual LAN Services are available across a wide range of Ethernet port speeds and support 10 Mbps bandwidth increments, so customers can easily scale the solution to meet growing bandwidth requirements. The services can also be turned up in days as opposed to weeks because there is no need for intervention from a local exchange carrier.
